Rose rises to the occasion

July 13, 2018

Grayson Rose is excited to be entering her sophomore season playing for Northern Kentucky University’s women’s basketball team. She represents the phrase “team over self,” willing to do anything to set up the team for success.

Rose started the first two games of her collegiate career, but later approached the coach about how she believed she could contribute more if she was off the bench.

“[We want to] definitely improve our win margin from last year, and we’re excited for conference tournaments this year,” Rose said.

Standing at 6’3”, Rose provides a great lift through rebounds and scoring, as well as a solid three-point shot. Her height and skill helped her average a double-double in high school.

Throughout her basketball career at James A. Garfield High School, she was awarded All-Conference Honors for her achievement in basketball. Stating that she is uncertain of where her love of the game originated, Rose has played basketball since the second grade.

A selfless player, she does anything the team needs. In this same light, Rose wants people to know that she is more than just a basketball player.

“Basketball is just a part of me,” Rose said.

Rose expressed the feeling being a student-athlete.

“It means so much. We’re playing the sport we love. We’re going to college for free, which is awesome! So, it means a lot,” Rose said.
