Year: Junior

Writing has always been a part of my life. While most kids were coloring with crayons in coloring books, I was scribbling lines in a spiral notebook with a number 2 pencil. Why? I would have to blame my parents for that one. They constantly told me that words were the best way to get what I wanted to say out into the open. Squiggly lines morphed into childish sentences, four or five words long, and then into sentences that used commas and semicolons. I filled up one journal, then two, then three. My parents suggested that I take journalism in 8th grade, and soon, asking questions and writing down what I was thinking became as natural as eating. I am a fourth year journalism student and I know that writing, whether it be for a magazine, a newspaper, a blog or even a journal, can have a huge impact on a person’s life.

What’s your favorite social media and why? I don’t really use social media, but if I had to pick one, I would say Twitter. It’s an easy way to stay updated on current events, which I think is important for any journalist.

What’s your dream job and why? I would love to someday write for a newspaper. I want to talk about things that impact not only the United States, but the world.

What’s one interesting fact about you? I am a feminist. I marched in the Women's March and when I am not fighting for women’s rights, you can find me reading. I am currently trying to work my way through a massive to-read list. I am a firm believer that the book is always better than the movie, though I have found a few exceptions.
