Every year, NKU holds a camp for girls who are interested in the game of basketball. Girls from all around come in ready to show off their skills and to hopefully obtain some new tips and tricks by the time the camp is finished.

“There are about 85 to 90 girls this year looking to improve their game,” junior forward Melody Doss said. “And each year it’s growing, so we are really excited.”

While the campers continue to be taught and mentored by some of the girls on the actual NKU team, they’re are all being overlooked and guided by the head coach of the basketball team, Dawn Plitzuweit.

“I didn’t really have a family interest in the sport,” Plitzuweit said. “But, I had some coaches when I was young who were very energetic, and that’s when I fell in love with the game.

As the week comes to a close, the campers leave their mark on the players and the players give them positive feedback.

“The girls are great, they listen and they just want to improve their game,” Doss said.
