Dean Hume has been working in the field of journalism since 1981. He was a former reporter and columnist for multiple weekly papers such as The Delaware Gazette. He has also worked as co-director of the Northeast Ohio Scholastic Press Association (NOSPA) Summer Press Institute and has been named NOSPA Newspaper Advisor of the Year five times.
In 2013, Hume was a recipient of the “Lakota Educator of Excellence Award”, which celebrates the community’s top educators. Hume was also named a 2002 Presidential Scholar Educator by the U.S. Department of Education.
Hume currently teaches multiple journalism classes at Lakota East High School located in Liberty Township, Ohio. He is also the faculty advisor of the Lakota East Spark, the award-winning student news magazine that he founded 21 years ago.
When he is not teaching high school and college-level journalism classes, Hume enjoys watching sports. In the past, Hume has covered big ten basketball and professional baseball.
