After coming to the conclusion that her initial college plans were not for her, Brittany Murphy was not sure where she saw her life going. After looking into different majors NKU had to offer, she eventually found her home with Electronic Media and Broadcasting.

“I’ve always been amazed at how someone can take something as small as a thought and turn it into something as influential as mass media,” Brittany said. “Creating something that finds its way into the everyday lives of millions of people is just amazing to me.

“I always had a passion for this kind of stuff, but opportunities were few to non-existent in high school,” she said.  Brittany was a part of the yearbook club, where she occasionally was able to take photos. She even took an elective in high school just because she knew of two projects that involved creative videos.

“They were such terrible quality,” said Brittany. “It was more just my friends and I having fun and being our silly selves creating music videos and parodies. I got really involved with the pre-planning and editing and enjoyed it a lot. I still have copies, but they’re hidden, which is where they’ll stay.”

When she decided to switch her major, she looked into the informatics department at NKU.

“I wasn’t sure what to expect at first, but it’s everything I could have ever asked for,” Brittany explained. She has yet to choose a more direct path within her major, but she knows this is where she wants to be.

In her free time, Brittany enjoys reading, writing, and watching television and movies. She is known in her friends group as an avid concertgoer. She even had a conversation with a camera operator at 2014’s Rock on the Range, where her interest in live event camera work was sparked.

“There’s so much you can do in this field. They’ll always be stories to tell and the ways to tell them seem endless. That’s fascinating to me,” stated Brittany.

  1. Favorite TV Show and why? — Either Sons of Anarchy or Game of Thrones. Why? Because I always pick shows that are bad on the heart. I also enjoy dramas with characters in interesting situations. I make it worse by investing myself into troubled characters who have a lot to overcome (and apparently, in the case of SOA and GOT, *SPOILER ALERT* die.)
  2. Favorite Social Media site or blog and why? — Tumblr, because fandoms. It’s my own little escape into things that I enjoy.
  3. Memorable moment and why? — To narrow this down, I chose a memorable moment during my time at NKU. Back in the Fall of 2014, Laverne Cox came and spoke. Meeting her and getting to see her tell her story is something I’ll never forget.
  4. If a movie was made was of your life, what genre would it be and who should play you? — Ha, probably a comedy. Amy Poehler.
  5. What’s one thing you’d put on your bucket list and why?  — I feel like “travel” is such a boring answer, but I would travel just about anywhere I could. What is better than seeing the world around you, experiencing new cultures, meeting those you who live on the opposite side of the world? I guess more specifically, I would love to take my mother to Africa. It’s always been a place both of us have been interested in visiting. Egypt, Uganda, Kenya, the list goes on.
