Chris Robertson

Year: Senior – Final Semester! Woooooooo!

Major: English

Minor: Journalism

Role: Story Editor

High School: Boone County High School (Florence, KY)

Bio: I’m a storyteller first and a person second. As a child, I was fascinated with creating my own stories. While I still am, I also tell stories of real people. Falling into journalism, I learned to understand how a feature profile can offer a look into someone’s life and personality. I love spending time with someone and picking their brain until they tell me who they are and why they’re special. My passion for storytelling translated to telling someone’s story.

I’ve written for The Northerner and NKU Magazine. I’ve written about a guy who directed a Pac-Man fan film, a dean who lived on NKU’s campus, a board game obsessed professor, made a video about the struggles of animation, and writers who found a tight-knit community through sharing their pain through writing.

I’m a stronger feature writer than a news-seeker. I seek out people stories and write overly long 2,000-3,000 word features (my former editors and Michele can vouch for that). I try to find out who someone is in as much detail as I can. Sometimes this means bothering them until they want nothing to do with me. If you’re not doing that, you’re not a journalist. Hey, maybe I have a future at Rolling Stone Magazine or The New Yorker.

Aside from all this, I am a movie, TV, video game, comic book and literature guy. If you want to talk any of these, I’ll talk for hours. On a personal note, I’ve always loved teaching. I might want to pursue that in the future. I’m of the belief that you should pass on what you know. I’m excited to have the opportunity to mentor high schoolers and pass on my knowledge with them. I hope I’ll learn something about them – as well as myself – during this workshop.

Favorite Social Media: I’m deathly afraid of big social media platforms with so many people with in-your-face opinions. Though, I am not averse to browsing Reddit for 8 hours a day.

Dream Job: Stuck in the confines of a small city like Florence, I have a pressing need to see the world. I’ve always wanted to travel and get paid for it. Journalism can be the best gateway into travel. There’s so much more going on in the world with someone needed to share those stories.

Interesting Fact: My mom won’t stop saying I look like Keanu Reeves.
