Jared Clifton

Year: Senior

Major: Electronic Media & Broadcasting

Minor: Communications

Role: Video editor

High School: I was homeschooled until college!

Bio: Greetings all!  My name is Jared, and I’ve been going to school here at NKU for several years, but I started at Ivy Tech in my hometown of Lawrenceburg, IN.  When I started the EMB program, I was nervous – I knew I wanted to be in film, I had known that since I was maybe 10. I would watch DVD special features and director’s commentaries, along with shooting home-movies on an old camcorder (a film camcorder).

When John Gibson told us at my first class that this was going to be the most work we’ll ever do for a 100-level class, I remember I was afraid of finding out that after all these years, I wasn’t cut out for this.  He told us that if this was something we enjoyed, we’d love the work. I didn’t know what to expect, and I remember wondering what I’d do if this didn’t work out!

Well, he was right; it was a lot of work, probably the most I’ve done for a 100-level class. But what I found encouraging was that I loved it, and it was the most fun I’ve ever had in college. The professors here are so knowledgeable and personable, I felt like I found where I needed to be. They challenged us, but it was just what I needed and I loved every minute of it.

I hope the same will be true for you at this journalism camp – the professors here know their stuff, the mentors are here for you every step of the way. and you can feel free to ask them questions about anything. More importantly, I hope you enjoy the heck out the experience!  I look forward to being there to guide you along the way because there’s a lot to learn, and if this is something you enjoy, you’re going to have a great time!

Favorite Social Media: I’m old school, so I mostly use Facebook and Reddit because I like to hear what people are saying about a wide variety of subjects.

Dream Job: I’d love to direct an epic mini-series, or shoot music videos for my favorite artists like Muse or Starset.  I’d even love to go shoot video at music festivals and shows around the country.

Interesting Fact: I used to be a voice actor for several years on Newgrounds.com – I was one of the original members of a voice acting guild that since grew to thousands of members!  http://voiceacting.boards.net/
